Huawei Phones without Google Play Apps, How Bad is it ?

Huawei can't ship phones with Google Gapps ( Play Store, Gmail, Google Maps, etc ) and Google Play Services on their smartphones. This is due to the 'Huawei Ban' by Trump Govt which prevents them from getting into a licensing agreement with Google to use their apps and services. Huawei P40 Pro, Honor 9X Pro, Honor 30 Series, etc ship without these google apps.  Huawei is not banned from using Google's Android since it is open-source. However, they have to wait until the AOSP Android version is publicly available after the release by Google. For rest of the OEMs, who have a licensing deal with Google, can get access to upcoming Android versions a few weeks or months early. This means Huawei would take more time to push out newer Android versions to their phones.  Huawei's own App Gallery has a lot of apps actually. You can also download apps from Amazon App Store as well. Trusted websites like APKMirror provides .apk files for many popular Android apps. So most ...

No Google Play Store on upcoming Huawei Mate 30 Pro

Huawei has officially announced their next flagship phones - Mate 30 Series ( Pro, Lite and regular ) - will launch on Sept 19th. This is the first major phone launch from Huawei since the Huawei Ban by Trump administration.  Due to the ban, Google and Huawei can't work together or sign licencing agreements. This means, the latest flagship from Huawei - Mate 30 Pro will ship without Google services. So, in short, you won't have access to vast amount of apps found of Google Play Store as it won't come pre-installed on the phone. One other issue Huawei is going to face with the Mate 30 Pro would be how they would push future software updates. Instead of relying on the Android version Google provides, they would now need to wait for the AOPS ( open source Android ) to surface and then build from those code with EMUI 10 on top.  Apart from this big worry, Huawei is gearing up to launch a true flagship phone with Great Cameras on board which are of course going to be Leica ...

Can Huawei survive without Android ?

Short answer is No.  Huawei actually has been preparing for this ban for a while now and has officially confirmed to be developing a new operating system. Even if Huawei launches a full fledge OS for their phones, majority of customers would be put off by knowing it is not an Android phone they are buying. Alternate option Huawei has is to wait until Google releases AOSP Android which is open source and build up EMUI on top of that.  With the talent Huawei has got, it won't be a big task to do that. However, the issue is, since Google has pulled the Android licence, Huawei or Honor can no longer ship Google apps like Play Store, Gmail, Google Services etc. This is not a big deal for them in China, however for Global customers, it is. So if the ban from Trump administration continue for the next 6 months or so, it is going to affect Huawei's sales a lot.  What will happen to existing Huawei and Honor devices ? Android aka Google has officially confirmed all Goog...
