Can Huawei survive without Android ?

Short answer is No.

Huawei actually has been preparing for this ban for a while now and has officially confirmed to be developing a new operating system. Even if Huawei launches a full fledge OS for their phones, majority of customers would be put off by knowing it is not an Android phone they are buying. Alternate option Huawei has is to wait until Google releases AOSP Android which is open source and build up EMUI on top of that.

With the talent Huawei has got, it won't be a big task to do that. However, the issue is, since Google has pulled the Android licence, Huawei or Honor can no longer ship Google apps like Play Store, Gmail, Google Services etc. This is not a big deal for them in China, however for Global customers, it is.

So if the ban from Trump administration continue for the next 6 months or so, it is going to affect Huawei's sales a lot.

What will happen to existing Huawei and Honor devices ?

Android aka Google has officially confirmed all Google apps including Google Play Store will continue to work perfectly on those phones. Huawei, in their statement has told the press they will continue to push updates and security patches to the existing devices.

Let's wait and see.
