GoPro Hero 8 vs DJI Osmo Action | Which one to buy ?

DJI Osmo action camera is a lot cheaper in India comparing to the price of GoPro Hero 8. Osmo Action regular model has a price tag of Rs 21,485 and Hero 8 can be bought for Rs 33,990 as of this writing. If you buy them with accessories, Osmo Action has one available for Rs 24,999 and GoPro Hero 8 Holiday Bundle pack is available for Rs 37,480.

So which one to buy?

Osmo Action is the first action camera from the DJI. On the other hand, GoPro has been making Action cameras for so long. So since this is DJI's first one, it had a few issues when it was launched a while back. It suffered from terrible screen lag and didn't have a way to use external microphones. DJI sent out a few firmware updates over the months and fixed almost everything they can and is now a quite good action camera to buy for 21K. You can also buy a USB Type-C adapter to connect an external mic.

Advantages GoPro Hero 8 have over DJI Osmo Action

When you look at the specs sheet, they both have similar specs and features. Both can record 4K @ 60fps, supports slow-mo, and have incredible image stabilization modes. However, GoPro Hero 8 has a noticeably wider field of view than Osmo Action when recording videos with image stabilization. If you are just buying an action camera for photography, this wouldn't be a deal-breaker. In my opinion, the field of view on Osmo Action is wide, and you can really make some great footage with it mounted on your helmet while going for a ride, but just know that Hero 8 can go wider.

Advantages Osmo Action has over GoPro Hero 8

Obviously, the price difference in India is a big advantage. It also comes with Dual screens - a smaller one in the front and a bigger one in the back. This will come in handy if you take selfies or record vlogs often as it helps to compose your photos and videos much better. In order to get a Dual screen on GoPro Hero 8, you would need to buy a screen mod which would cost you more.

One other main advantage Osmo Action has is that it handles skin tones and colors better than GoPro. Videos recorded on Osmo offer better skin tone and the D-cinelike mode makes it even better. Hero 8 has that GoPro look with saturated colors, which a lot of people actually like. However, if you love to vlog with it, your skin tone would be a bit orangy often.

[ FIX ] Ubuntu 20.04 Bluetooth doesn't Turn On

I have been using a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for a while now with my Ubuntu 20.04. Everything worked well without any issues until one day the operating system refused to turn on the Bluetooth. I could toggle Bluetooth On button from the Settings, but it did nothing.  After spending some time Google Searching why my Bluetooth started not working all of a sudden, and after trying a variety of commands to troubleshoot the problem, I finally found a working fix for this issue. Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T )  and enter below commands one after another.  sudo rmmod btusb sudo modprobe btusb That's it. Your Bluetooth issue would be now solved.  I can guarantee you this problem is going to pop-up every now and then. So copy the above commands to a text file for future uses. Sometimes, even after entering above commands the bluetooth would refuse to turn on. In such cases, just Suspend the system and then wake up it again and check.

Reduce External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu 20.04, 21.10

External Monitors are a great addition to any workspace. I have a Full HD Benq one connected with my laptop via HDMI cable to do multi-tasking. What I don't like about this setup is the external screen is still very bright even after setting it to the lowest possible setting via physical buttons present on the monitor. Changing brightness on the Laptop doesn't affect the brightness of the external monitor. However, In Ubuntu, you can adjust the brightness level of any connected monitor by opening up a terminal/command line and entering a few comments. Xrandr is the command we would be using to achieve this. How to change External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu Linux Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T ) Enter the command xrandr -q | grep " connected" and press Enter. Find the external monitor name displayed in this command's output. In my case, it is  HDMI-1 To change the brightness enter this command xrandr --output HDMI-1 --brightness 0.5 and press Ente...
