OnePlus 7T vs OnePlus 8 Specs Comparison | Is it worth upgrading ?

OnePlus has officially announced OnePlus 8 Series mobiles globally. The regular OnePlus 8 model is a mid-range Flagship phone comparing to the more expensive Pro model. Is it that better than the last year's OnePlus 7T?  Let's analyze.

OnePlus 7T is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ Octacore chipset and comes with 6.55 inches AMOLED Full HD+ display. Newer OnePlus 8, on the other hand, is powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset and naturally has 5G support. It has the same 6.55 inch AMOLED display with the same resolution and aspect ratio ( 20:9 ). Both have the same 90hz refresh rate as well. When you look at the display, the main visible difference you can spot is the placement of the camera. On the 7T, it was placed at the top middle as a waterdrop notch, while on the OnePlus 8, it's now a hole-punch style cut out on the left top corner. Last year's OnePlus 7T pro had a pop-up selfie camera that is not seen on these newer OnePlus 8 Series of smartphones.

So Performance-wise, OnePlus 8 is a bit faster than the older 7T. However, in day to day usage, you are hardly going to notice the difference. Both support 30W Warp Fast Charging. OnePlus 8 has a bigger battery at 4300mAh comparing to the 3800mAh on the 7T.

In the camera department, the differences are not that big to talk about. It looks like OnePlus is using the same 48MP Sony sensor on both 7T and 8. The OnePlus 8 Pro, however, has a brand new, custom made Sony IMX689 sensor on board.

The ultra-wide-angle lens on the OnePlus 8 is wider than the 7T ( 13mm vs 17mm ). However, the newer model doesn't come with a dedicated telephoto lens while older 7T has a 12MP 2x optical sensor available. Both feature similar 16MP F2.0 aperture front cameras. 4K at 60fps is supported by both phones.

In my opinion, if you already own an OnePlus 7T or a 7T Pro, it's not a worthy upgrade to get the newer OnePlus 8, unless you want to own a 5G OnePlus device. In India, 5G is not available yet, so there is no point in upgrading to this phone just for the 5G support.

[ FIX ] Ubuntu 20.04 Bluetooth doesn't Turn On

I have been using a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for a while now with my Ubuntu 20.04. Everything worked well without any issues until one day the operating system refused to turn on the Bluetooth. I could toggle Bluetooth On button from the Settings, but it did nothing.  After spending some time Google Searching why my Bluetooth started not working all of a sudden, and after trying a variety of commands to troubleshoot the problem, I finally found a working fix for this issue. Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T )  and enter below commands one after another.  sudo rmmod btusb sudo modprobe btusb That's it. Your Bluetooth issue would be now solved.  I can guarantee you this problem is going to pop-up every now and then. So copy the above commands to a text file for future uses. Sometimes, even after entering above commands the bluetooth would refuse to turn on. In such cases, just Suspend the system and then wake up it again and check.

Reduce External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu 20.04, 21.10

External Monitors are a great addition to any workspace. I have a Full HD Benq one connected with my laptop via HDMI cable to do multi-tasking. What I don't like about this setup is the external screen is still very bright even after setting it to the lowest possible setting via physical buttons present on the monitor. Changing brightness on the Laptop doesn't affect the brightness of the external monitor. However, In Ubuntu, you can adjust the brightness level of any connected monitor by opening up a terminal/command line and entering a few comments. Xrandr is the command we would be using to achieve this. How to change External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu Linux Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T ) Enter the command xrandr -q | grep " connected" and press Enter. Find the external monitor name displayed in this command's output. In my case, it is  HDMI-1 To change the brightness enter this command xrandr --output HDMI-1 --brightness 0.5 and press Ente...
