How to shoot DNG RAW Photos on your Android Smartphone

Almost all Professional Photographers shoot RAW photos. The reason for this is it contains a lot more Data than a regular jpeg file you normally shoot on your phone or DSLR camera.

Since a RAW file contains a lot more Data, you can take these files to image processing softwares like Adobe Lightroom and edit them to produce high quality images with better dynamic range and colors. You can adjust a ton of settings and create an image you want, without losing a lot of information.

Regular Jpeg (.jpg) files can also be edited, but these files are not made for editing purposes. When you heavily edit a .jpg file, it will lose information and quality, introducing a lot of grain and artifacts in to the images. Basically, it destroys the quality of the photo often.

So, if you plan to Edit your Photos, and want the best quality out of any camera - whether it be your smartphone or your high end DSLR / Mirrorless Camera, shoot raw images.

Different manufactures have different RAW formats. For Eg, on Sony Mirrorless Cameras, the raw file has .ARW file extension. On regular Android Smartphones and Apple iPhones, the raw format supported is .DNG.

"Digital Negative (DNG) is a patented, open, lossless raw image format written by Adobe used for digital photography."

A lot of phones these days ship with a Pro mode inside the camera app, which usually has an option to shoot raw or raw+jpeg in the camera settings. If your particular phone doesn't offer that, you can install third party Camera apps from Google Play Store that supports DNG raw shooting.

Many of such apps are Paid. If you want a Free Pro Camera app for your Android Smartphone, Adobe has a very good one ready for you.

Install Adobe Lightroom Mobile from Play Store. Inside that app, click on the Camera Icon at bottom right to enter the Pro Camera Capture mode. You will see a toggle option to switch between DNG and Jpeg there.

How Edit DNG RAW Files on your Android Smartphones

If you are shooting DNG RAW using the Lightroom Camera app, it automatically imports these files to your Lightroom Library. You can play with many sliders provided in the editing section and get the look you want. Once you are done, click on the share button and hit 'Save to Device'. The app will save it as a .jpg in your gallery. You can alternately hit 'Export' and save the jpg file with the Quality and Resolution you want.

[ FIX ] Ubuntu 20.04 Bluetooth doesn't Turn On

I have been using a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for a while now with my Ubuntu 20.04. Everything worked well without any issues until one day the operating system refused to turn on the Bluetooth. I could toggle Bluetooth On button from the Settings, but it did nothing.  After spending some time Google Searching why my Bluetooth started not working all of a sudden, and after trying a variety of commands to troubleshoot the problem, I finally found a working fix for this issue. Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T )  and enter below commands one after another.  sudo rmmod btusb sudo modprobe btusb That's it. Your Bluetooth issue would be now solved.  I can guarantee you this problem is going to pop-up every now and then. So copy the above commands to a text file for future uses. Sometimes, even after entering above commands the bluetooth would refuse to turn on. In such cases, just Suspend the system and then wake up it again and check.

Reduce External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu 20.04, 21.10

External Monitors are a great addition to any workspace. I have a Full HD Benq one connected with my laptop via HDMI cable to do multi-tasking. What I don't like about this setup is the external screen is still very bright even after setting it to the lowest possible setting via physical buttons present on the monitor. Changing brightness on the Laptop doesn't affect the brightness of the external monitor. However, In Ubuntu, you can adjust the brightness level of any connected monitor by opening up a terminal/command line and entering a few comments. Xrandr is the command we would be using to achieve this. How to change External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu Linux Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T ) Enter the command xrandr -q | grep " connected" and press Enter. Find the external monitor name displayed in this command's output. In my case, it is  HDMI-1 To change the brightness enter this command xrandr --output HDMI-1 --brightness 0.5 and press Ente...
