In 2019, we saw a lot of flagship Android smartphones adopting a display with 90Hz refresh rate. These phones offered a great fluid experience thanks to it's higher frame rates. OnePlus had it on their 7T series and a lot of reviewers around the planet were impressed by the display quality. Google Pixel 4 too had a similar display on board.
Samsung on the other hand, didn't release any such higher refresh rate in 2019. It was quite surprising to see that as almost all 90Hz AMOLED screens seen on other phones were made by Samsung.
In 2020, Samsung is going to skip 90hz and jump straight in to 120Hz screens on their upcoming Galaxy S20 Series of smartphones. This should allow some, very butter smooth UI experience on these upcoming flagship phones.
OnePlus 8 Series will also come with a 120Hz display. One other smartphone currently expected to come with a similar screen is Oppo Find X2. Oppo's Vice President Brian Shen has this to say about the display on the Find X2 - "I’ve recently got hands on with the #OPPOFindX2 and the screen is second to none. Confirmed - this will be a game changer!"
One big downside with these high frame rate displays is that these consume a lot of power - so battery life is gonna take a big hit. What many oems do on phones with such displays is to make the refresh rate a dynamic, varying one, so that it won't be always in 120Hz or 90hz mode. We can also expect oems like Samsung bringing bigger batteries to their flagships to compact this battery drain issue caused by 120Hz displays.
