Essential is a company started by Ex-Googler and the creator of Android - Andy Rubin. Essential's first Android phone was well received and was one of the first Android smartphone to come up with a water drop style Notch to house the front camera. It also got new Android Software OTAs without much delays - sometimes on the same day as Google Pixel phones. A while back, it was rumoured Andy Robin is shutting down Essential and we won't see any new phones from the company. Fortunately that's not the case.
Andy Rubin on Twitter has shared some hands-on pictures of their upcoming phone with hashtag #ProjectGEM. Is this the upcoming Essential 2 ? Probably it would be called something else.
It has a very unique, very tall form factor - like your TV remote. Tweets also give a glimpse at the new UI this tall phone would ship with. Essential has confirmed it's now in the testing period. We can expect an official launch in couple of months time.
