Is it possible to root or bootloader unlock latest Android smartphones from Huawei or Honor ? If you have been using a Huawei or Honor device and have been wanting to have root access for whatever reason, chances are you would have often reached a dead end while searching for tutorials and tools. So is it possible ?
In order to achieve root, these days you need to flash a custom or modified boot.img aka kernel. Usually a patched magisk boot.img does the trick. This is done by flashing it using Fastboot command with phone connected to your laptop. However, there is one huge problem.
In order to flash something via Fastboot command, you need to unlock the bootloader of your phone first. Usually it's done by using 'fastboot oem unlock' command in bootloader mode. Huawei and many other oems lock this down. In order to unlock, along with the above mentioned command, you would need to supply a device specific passcode to get it unlocked.
With bootloader locked, currently there is no way you can root your Huawei or Honor Phone. Hard Luck. Newer phones like Honor 8X, Honor 9X, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Mate 30 Pro, P30 Pro etc all ship with locked bootloaders.
If you live in India, you can go to a Huawei service centre and apply for a Bootloader unlock code. I have done that once before, but i am not 100% sure they still offer this service. Good luck.
