DSLRs ruled the photography world for a number of years. However, in recent years, Mirrorless cameras have surfaced with better features, attractive specs and compact bodies, making a lot of photographers to abandon their trusty DSLRs and switch to Mirrorless. In the early days of Mirrorless system, Sony and Panasonic were the main players in the market. Both Nikon and Canon have now joined the Mirrorless game with their own mounts.
What are the benefits of Mirrorless Cameras over DSLR ?
- Most of them are Compact and weighs lesser than it's DSLR counterparts thanks to lack of a Mirror inside. So it's easy to carry around
- Older vintage lenses and lenses from different mounts can be easily adapted to the system via adapters
- EVF - there is no Optical View Finder on Mirrorless bodies, instead they comes with EVF. The main advantage of an EVF is that you get realtime feedback on the screen about how your final image would look like while you adjust various settings. With an Optical View Finder, that's not possible.
- Better video features
- Better Auto Focus
- Features like Eye Auto Focus
These are some of the main advantages of buying a Mirrorless over a DSLR. Mirrorless is the future, while DSLRs are a dying breed. In 5 years time, we would probably see both Nikon and Canon abandoning high end DSLR cameras and would be concentrating all their resources on Mirrorless cameras and lenses. So go get a Mirrorless Camera now.
