OnePlus 7 Pro vs Google Pixel 3a - Which one to buy ?

Last week, Google has launched a mid-range Pixel phone - Pixel 3A - powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset while OnePlus brought their newest flagship OnePlus 7 Pro to the market a couple of days ago. Pixel 3A will cost you $399 which is quite an acceptable price for a mid-range phone. If you have been wanting to get a Pixel phone to use it's great HDR+ camera and Night Sight mode and didn't want to spend $700+, Pixel 3A will serve you well as it features the same exact camera as it's bigger brother Pixel 3 and 3XL. OnePlus 7 Pro on the other hand has a starting price of $670, but comes with high end Specs and is currently the best value for money flagship phone you can purchase today.

If you are living in India, the price difference between these two phones is not big. Pixel 3A base model is priced at Rs 39,999 while OnePlus 7 Pro base model with 6GB ram and 128GB storage is Rs 48,990.

So Which one to buy ? Let's analyse.

What are the advantages of buying Google Pixel 3A over any other Android phone out there ?
  • Fast 3 Year monthly security updates directly from Google
  • At least 2 Year Software updates ( OS versions )
  • Fantastic Pixel Camera features like Night Sight, HDR+ etc
There are a few features Google didn't include in 3A but is available on Pixel 3. There is no unlimited Original Quality Google Photos cloud backup on 3A, instead you only get Free High Quality backup, which is actually available on all Android smartphones. One other feature missing is the Pixel Visual Core chip which allows 3rd party apps to make use of HDR+ and other Pixel Camera features.

So for Rs 39,999, Pixel 3A is not a great purchase in my opinion, unless you are after those camera features.

OnePlus 7 Pro Specs Highlights
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset - currently the fastest available in the Android world
  • Fast UFS 3.0 storage - First phone to feature this ( Samsung Fold had it as well )
  • Triple Cameras
  • Fast WARP Charging
  • Fantastic Quad HD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refreshing rate - another First.
  • Oxygen OS - close to Stock Android
  • Pop-up selfie camera
  • No Notch or Bezels
For Rs 48,990, you are getting a fantastic Android flagship phone with the OnePlus 7 Pro. The display is unique, as currently there are no other phone to feature an AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate. Triple cameras ( wide, ultra wide and telephoto lenses ) give you better flexibility compared to the single sensor on the Pixel 3A. Also, when it comes to design and looks, OnePlus 7 Pro is miles ahead of Pixel 3a.

Pixel 3a should be bought for it's amazing Pixel camera. If you want better overall features and more value for money, get the OnePlus 7 Pro instead.

[ FIX ] Ubuntu 20.04 Bluetooth doesn't Turn On

I have been using a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for a while now with my Ubuntu 20.04. Everything worked well without any issues until one day the operating system refused to turn on the Bluetooth. I could toggle Bluetooth On button from the Settings, but it did nothing.  After spending some time Google Searching why my Bluetooth started not working all of a sudden, and after trying a variety of commands to troubleshoot the problem, I finally found a working fix for this issue. Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T )  and enter below commands one after another.  sudo rmmod btusb sudo modprobe btusb That's it. Your Bluetooth issue would be now solved.  I can guarantee you this problem is going to pop-up every now and then. So copy the above commands to a text file for future uses. Sometimes, even after entering above commands the bluetooth would refuse to turn on. In such cases, just Suspend the system and then wake up it again and check.

Reduce External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu 20.04, 21.10

External Monitors are a great addition to any workspace. I have a Full HD Benq one connected with my laptop via HDMI cable to do multi-tasking. What I don't like about this setup is the external screen is still very bright even after setting it to the lowest possible setting via physical buttons present on the monitor. Changing brightness on the Laptop doesn't affect the brightness of the external monitor. However, In Ubuntu, you can adjust the brightness level of any connected monitor by opening up a terminal/command line and entering a few comments. Xrandr is the command we would be using to achieve this. How to change External Monitor Brightness on Ubuntu Linux Open a Terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T ) Enter the command xrandr -q | grep " connected" and press Enter. Find the external monitor name displayed in this command's output. In my case, it is  HDMI-1 To change the brightness enter this command xrandr --output HDMI-1 --brightness 0.5 and press Ente...
