Sony makes a wide variety of mirrorless cameras for the masses. Their most popular cameras currently are the A6000 series and A7 Series. Sony also makes Cybershot point and shoot cameras as well as some high quality RX series cameras.
In the Sony Alpha A6000 series, there are currently 4 cameras available in the market - A6000, A6300, A6400 and A6500. All these cameras have APS-C size sensors which are one level below Full Frame sensors seen on A7 series of cameras.
The oldest one and the cheapest one in the lineup A6000 is the most popular in the series and are still available to purchase. Is it worth buying this in 2019 ?
If you are able to buy A6000 for around 35K-40K with kit lens, i would say it's a good buy. It doesn't come with 4K support. The camera is lightweight and compact, so easy to carry around.
Sony A6300 - the successor to A6000 can shoot 4K videos. However, i would highly recommend you stay away from this model as it is notorious for over heating during 4K video recording.
A6500 was launched to rectify the mistakes Sony made with the A6300. It comes with in body image stabilization and supports 4K @ 30fps recording. Overheating issues are under control.
Recently launched A6400 - even though priced lesser than the A6500 - is currently the best package in this lineup in my opinion. It comes with a newer Bionz X processor that guarantees improved battery life and the ability to record long clips without any over heating issues. It also features Sony's class leading Auto Focus system. Eye Auto Focus is supported as well.
So which one to buy ?
If you are looking for a compact Stills Cameras and don't care much about video features, get the A6000 if you see it on offer. It was launched in India for Rs 49,999 ( with 16-50mm kit lens ). Check here for the current prices.
If you want the latest features, and a better overall camera, go get the newest A6400. Check here for the prices.
Important Note : The 16-50mm zoom lens often bundled with Sony Cameras produces below average pictures often. If you want better image quality, i would suggest Sony Selp18105g lens or buy a prime lens like Sigma 19mm F2.8 prime.
